Lisboa 2010
There is something surreal about being in a big interesting city, with lots of things to see, be it historic or recreational, where the people are very helpful and attentive to your needs, the sun shining, the heat pleasant.....and yet you don't want to be there!. It becomes more surreal again when you discover that you cannot even get out of that city. Not by air, not by sea, not by rail nor by road and the source of your captivity is invisible to your eye. In fact it exists on the air stream tens of thousands of feet in the sky. And so it was as we scampered around Lisbon this April, attempting to uncover an exit route which would bring us even as far as Portsmouth in England. All the time we discovered that thousands of equally active minds had beaten us to the ports, stations or terminals...... what a time to discover you're not the only genius in Europe. Big is how I would describe Lisbon....sprawling would be an even more accurate summing up. Nearly every day we found new unexplored streets which had something intersting to attract ones attention. Fashion for Ber, Food for Bren. Well one has ones priorities!.
We spent 7 days in the Zenit Lisboa Hotel which was very comfortable and the food ( priorities! priorities! ) was beautiful. We were in walking distance to a couple of Metros, for super convenience, but we often chose to walk into the city centre which was about 2 miles away. Towards the end of the fourth day we wandered around the immediate vacinity only to discover a number of Large shopping centres....and a wide selection of eateries..... ah Bliss! I of course enjoyed the local favourite sweet, which is more or less a mini custard pie which was delicious (Droooooool). This is why we did so much walking, Ber to keep her sugar levels down, Bren to keep his weight down.

Watch Out! I'm comin' back!
Yep 24 weeks after I left the Car Park to go home......I'm heading back to work on the same shift that I was on the night of the crash. What can I say, I’m BACCCCCK!
BUBBLEWRAP them BRIDGES !
I believe the streets & bridges of our Beautiful City should feel safer now... I did say SHOULD !
Believe it or not I am so looking forward to going into work..... Do you think I should be analyzed?
Still have some time to paint though.http://brenom.jalbum.net/

Exorcising the Past
Went to St. Patricks Bridge this morning after dropping Ber to work. I needed to find out if seeing the Crash Site would affect me or not. I found, as I suspected, that the whole thing seems so Surreal. I stood at the 'GAP' looked towards the river and I may as well have been a curious Tourist !. It's like it happened to someone else and that the someone was unknown to me!. Strange and yet Wonderful that having made a "Remarkable Recovery"(Doctors & Physios words, not mine) physically, I do not have any apparent psychological scars either. I feel this is evidence that the Grace & the Mercy of God are AS REAL as the events of October 19th '09. Isn't Grace Wonderful !.
I took some snaps of the area.Crash Site

I'll be back!
Finished up with the Occupational Therapy on Wednesday. The soreness I have in my small finger apparently will go eventually, ( it can last for a year or so) everything else is fine thank God. I saw the Company Doctor on Tuesday and informed him that I am returning to work on Tuesday 6th. of April, God willing. He feels I have made a remarkable recovery. Looking forward then to a week in Lisbon. Thankfully we have no worries about passports. Looks like my life is getting back on stream.

A 3D Experience - Life is an Adventure
Well yesterday myself and Bernie went for a long(ish) walk. I have been advised by my Physio and my G.P. to try and walk as much as possible in order to exercise my Pelvis/Hip joint. And what an adventure it turned out to be. We have been walking the very beautiful walk from Carrigaline to Crosshavcn, though we do so from about half way along the route. It really is a wonderful amenity and we stop for a coffee and muffin at a lovely Cafe in Crosser itself. So what made this walk an adventure ?. It was the joy of experiencing a 3D exercise !. Dodging Dogs Dirt ! to be exact. The Co. Council have made a Magnificent Job of the pathway.... well laid out and surfaced. But obviously someone found this too boring so they decided to take their Pooch for a walk... = Pooch Poo!. What started as a leisurely stroll to exercise my muscles turned in to a practice session for Riverdance, such were the movements required to navigate the little surprises along the way. Grrrrr! However, it is such a lovely walk and the weather has been bright and dry.......I'll forgive the dog this time but I am thinking of starting up a 3D Club sometime.

What a Start!
What a start to the New Year and the New Decade!. Freezing Weather and treacherous road conditions. But what the heck! I got Great News from Mr. Gul the Broken Bones Doc. My bones have healed up and he took me off one crutch. I am now able to put all my weight on my bad side, though it will ache for a while until I settle into it. But at least I feel I'm getting my life back....which also means I cannot skive off the housework as easily. Hmmmmmm! I think I better talk to Mr. Gul again........!
